Government, Economics Rank Low in Department Satisfaction

The small classes have proven beneficial: satisfaction for class discussion nearly tripled.

“I’m very satisfied. It’s a great concentration. It allows you to pursue your interests,” Lynnette Cortes ’11 said. The reforms have made the concentration “more personalized,” she said. “We get more attention from faculty and advisors.”

“The English classes have been the best classes I’ve taken here at Harvard,” Cortes said.

Other large concentrations that scored above the mean included neurobiology, History and Literature, and Social Studies.

Among all concentrations at the College, History of Art and Architecture and Earth and Planetary Sciences ranked top in concentration satisfaction with a perfect five rating. Engineering Sciences, a growing concentration, was at the bottom of the list with a 3.45 rating.

Smaller departments generally performed well in both categories. The six top-ranked concentrations all had fewer than 20 respondents.
