Harvard University received donations worth $596 million in the fiscal year ending June 30, down slightly from the $602 million raised a year earlier.
Though the University’s chief fundraiser reported an adverse effect on gift receipts compared to last year, University donors said last week that the current dip in numbers may not necessarily indicate weakened support for Harvard’s upcoming capital campaign.
The Alavi Foundation, a non-profit organization that has funded various Harvard programs in Middle Eastern culture and language, faced formal allegations from the U.S. government earlier this month that they had illegally given money and services to the Iranian government in violation of laws that regulate trade with Iran.
