M. Lacrosse Fades Against Cornell

Big Red scores nine unanswered goals to erase 4-2 Harvard advantage

Harvard also gave up two goals while shorthanded. The Crimson had just given up just one extra-man goal all season.

Harvard led for virtually the entire first half. Both teams started off slow, but the Crimson jumped out in front on a transition goal by junior attacker Matt Primm with 6:44 remaining in the period.

Primm added a second goal from virtually the same spot on the field just over a minute later, giving Harvard a surprising 2-0 lead.

Cornell would eventually tie the game at two with goals late in the first and early in the second period. The Big Red outplayed Harvard for a nearly ten-minute stretch spanning the two frames, and only clutch goaltending by McKenna kept the Crimson from falling behind.

McKenna, who boasts an impressive .623 save percentage, stopped eight of 10 Cornell shots, including several from close range.

Despite the lopsided final score, the Crimson hopes to build on its first-half performance against the Big Red.

“We need to focus on the one half that we did play well in,” Baly said. “If we play that way for the whole game, we can beat anyone.”

Harvard faces another tough task Wednesday, as it travels to Providence to take on No. 20 Brown.
