Science Hiring Goal
The natural science departments at Harvardcurrently have only five female senior facultymembers. Robertson's appointment will helpHarvard's natural science departments reach theirone-year goal of appointing three female seniorscientists.
The goal is defined as the number of hiringswhich would equalize the percentage of women atHarvard with the national percentage of womenfaculty.
Both Robertson and McMahon were born andeducated in Britain. Neither has held a post atHarvard.
