The Boston chapter of the NAACP will not officially protest the Ivy Films' showing of the movie Birth of a Nation, though it cannot actually give its approval. This is in contrast to the organization's demonstrations against the 1952 ban of the film.
The NAACP will not picket the movie this time because it has concluded that the movie is being given by the film study group only as part of a series to show technical improvements and the film's impact on the cinema industry.
Furthermore, it will be seen mainly by Harvard audience, students who supposedly will be able to draw their own conclusions and not be propagandized by the anti-Negro plot.
A short note about the racial prejudice in the story will be included in the program.
