Taking four out of the places, the crimson cross country teams moved to an easy victory after the Umass varsity yesterday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston

Racing against a former high school rival, Mark Mullin took first place with a time of 26:10 for the file mile course. His school enemy, Umass's Dave Balch, coming second, a full 14 seconds behind Mullin.

The third, fourth, and fifth place finishers, all Crimson runners, were Jed Fitzgerald, Fred HOward, and Ed HAmlin. Greg Baldwin, who came in seventh behind UMass runner Bob Biomstrom, provided the last Crimson score.

The varsity's other entries were Ed Hildreth, eight; Bob Knapp, ninth; John Benjamin, 11th; Jim Bonnar, 12th; Gerry Webb, 17th; John Evans, 19th; and Don Kirkland, 21st.

Runners Meet Dartmouth Next

With the UMass win, the varsity boosted its record to 8-1. The team's next match will be against Dartmouth, this Friday at 8 p.m. at Franklin Park. Although Dartmouth's record thus far this fall has been indecisive, the Indians have several strong runners and should give the Crimson a very difficult afternoon.

In the freshman race against UMass, Middle Meehan finished second, but the next three runners were all Massachusetts men.
