The varsity tennis team continued its shutout habit Saturday afternoon on the Soldiers Field courts as it romped to an easy 9-0 win over Boston University. The result had been expected, and the lopsided score indicates very little about the real ability of the Crimson squad.

In the only close match of the day, Dale Junta, playing in the number two spot, barely defeated Tom Kerr, 1-6, 6-4, 8-6. Kerr, a tall left-hander, is one of the most erratic players in New England and is capable of exceptional play when he is on his game.

Saturday, he blew Junta off the court in the first set with his powerful strokes and clutch game. He tighten slightly in the second set, falling behind 5 to 1. In the final set, he came back from a 5-3 deficit, extending Junta to 14 games before finally bowing.

The rest of the singles were won in routine style. Brooks Harris won 6-2, 6-4; Ham Graven, 6-1, 6-2; Connie Fisher, 6-3, 6-1; Karl Purnell, 6-1, 6-2; and Ben Heckscher, 6-0, 6-0. Especially impressive were the wins by Purnell and Heckscher.

Still experimenting with his wealth of doubles talent, coach Jack Barnaby played Gravem-Fisher, Rod Nickols-Pete Krogh, and Maynard Canfield-Bob Goldman. Each pair won in two sets with only Nichols and Krogh being forced past the normal 6-4 set.
