Fact and Rumor.

It is rumored that some Freshmen have been buying out Brine's surplus stock of '87 plug hats for the purpose of decorating their rooms. Brave Freshmen!

Several young trees have been planted in front of the Jefferson Physical Laboratory which when grown will hide much of the bare brick wall of that building.

The Clipper comments as follows upon the playing of the '88 eleven in their game against Andover: "The Harvards showed excellent capabilities, but failed to play together, and passed poorly."

There will be a conference of the College Y. M. C. A. Associations held at Syracuse on November 15th and 16th, to exchange views of methods and suggest plans for more successful Christian work in colleges.

The fifth ten of the Institute of 1770 from '87 is as follows: H. A. Buck, Denny, A. N. Rantoul, Griswold, de Gersdorff, Oakes, Keep, F. S. Palmer, Faulkner, Sampson. F. M. Tilden is elected an honorary member.

The Harvard students came very near having another excitement this week, in addition to the political excitements. A student in Chem. 1 put a warm plate and a towel in his desk together, and the towel caught fire. This was luckily discovered by the janitor just before he left the laboratory, or probably there would now be no chemical laboratory at Harvard.
