Police Log

Oct. 1:

1:01 a.m.--A caller reported that a suspicious person had gone through several rooms at 39 Kirkland St. The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) could not locate the individual.

1:24 a.m.--A caller reported a loud party at the Harvard Advocate. Units responded, and the party was shut down.

11:36 a.m.--A caller reported a domestic disturbance outside the Holden Green housing complex. HUPD determined everything was in order.

4:21 p.m.--An HUPD detail officer reported seeing a man lying on the ground near the kiosk in Harvard Square. The Cambridge Fire Department (CFD) transported the individual to Cambridge City Hospital.

Oct. 2:

6:57 p.m.--HUPD and the Massachusetts State Police checked on the well being of a student sitting on the edge of the Weeks footbridge. She said she was fine, and the units left.

6:06 p.m.--HUPD assisted the Cambridge Police Department in arresting a shoplifter at Tower Records on Mt. Auburn Street.

8:40 p.m.--HUPD interviewed a suspicious person at the Science Center. The man was released after a warrant check proved negative.

Oct. 3:

4:43 p.m.--A clerk from the Inn at Harvard reported that a street person was causing a disturbance in the lobby. HUPD removed the individual.

11:16 a.m.--Employees at Ma Soba's extinguished a minor fire, which caused no damage.

5:31 p.m.--A caller from Au Bon Pain reported an anteater chasing pedestrians. HUPD units who responded determined that the anteater was, in fact, a small dog. The dog's owner left with the animal.

Oct. 4:

12:31 a.m.--HUPD units removed two homeless people sleeping behind Byerly Hall. Employees in the Radcliffe Yard had complained recently about people sleeping in the area.

Oct. 5:

12:04 a.m.--A guard responded to a door alarm sounding in Harvard Hall. The guard asked for HUPD to respond after he found that a door had been tampered with. The officer reported that the lock had been removed.

12:24 p.m.--A Pforzheimer House resident reported a suspicious package. An officer brought the package to HUPD headquarters at 29 Garden St.

2:29 p.m.--A caller reported some inappropriate behavior at the reading tables in Widener library. HUPD officers located the individual responsible and gave him a trespass warning before escorting him from the building.

Oct. 6:

1:31 p.m.--A caller reported that a suspicious person entered her office in Griswold Hall. The man stated he was looking for a friend. Another employee escorted him from the office.

5:09 p.m.--A caller told police of a strong smell of something burning coming from the basement area of the Semitic Museum on Divinity Ave. An officer reported numerous arc welders in the area created the odor.
