A Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) officer noticed a man walking on Winthrop St., carrying a traffic sign. The officer asked the man to replace the sign. The man complied. March 1

A Cambridge resident reported to the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) that an unknown person poured sugar into the gas tank of his car when it was parked along Pine and Magazine Sts. A mechanic says the car has been damaged.

A student from Winthrop House reported that her laptop computer had been stolen. When an HUPD officer arrived at the student's dorm room, the student told the officer that there were 10 people who could have used the computer. Officers told the student to make sure that none of the 10 actually had the computer. No report was filed.

Also on March 1, a cab driver from Somerville told police that he drove two women to a Cambridge destination. When they arrived, the women told the driver that they would bring him his fare. They never returned. However, one of the suspects left her purse-containing her wallet and identification-in the back of the cab. Police are searching for the suspects. March 3

A Cambridge resident was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, police reported. The unidentified man was crossing River Street around 12:20 a.m. when a green compact car, possibly a Honda, hit him. Witnesses said the car sped off. The man was taken to a local hospital where he died from injuries. The driver has not been found. March 4

A resident of Washington, D.C. reported that his briefcase was stolen from the Charles Hotel. He said he left the case unattended for several minutes while checking out. When he returned, it was missing. Witnesses told police they saw a 35-year-old male carry the briefcase out of the hotel. Security cameras caught the incident on tape. The total value of the briefcase and its contents was $4,000. March 5

HUPD responded to a report of a bicyclist who was hit by a car along Soldiers Field Rd. at about 5 p.m. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. State Police are investigating the incident. March 6

A woman told police that she had been assaulted outside the Loeb Drama Theatre at 64 Brattle St. The woman said a man unknown to her began to argue with her about a parking space about 1:30 p.m. He then struck her, she alleged. She was treated for minor injuries.
