Bus Breaks Down Returning From U.C. Sponsored Ski Trip

A bus carrying 49 students returning from yesterday's Undergraduate Council-sponsored ski trip to Wildcat broke down and stopped at a gas station in Manchester, N.H., delaying students for nearly an hour and a half.

Harvard Art Museums Receive $250,000 Grant for Exhibition

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a $250,000 grant to the Harvard University Art Museums to support a special exhibition. The grant is the largest federal grant the Art Museums have ever received in support of an exhibition, according to a University press release.

The exhibition, called The Fire of Hephaistos: Large Classical Bronzes from North American Collections, will open in April, 1996. It will focus on the role of technology in the history of classical sculpture, specifically, in the production of large Greek and Roman bronze statues.

The exhibition will consist of sixty objects from the archaic period to the Roman period and will examine the links between ancient styles and techniques, and the new research methods that scholars are using today to study the sculptures.

"This funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities is absolutely critical to furthering our knowledge and understanding of bronzes and ancient culture," said project organizer Amy Brauer, assistant curator for ancient art.   Michael M. Luo RADCLIFFE COLLEGE

MIT Scholar Appointed Visiting Professor at Radcliffe Institute

Lotte Bailyn, Wilson professor of management at MIT's Sloan School of Management, has been appointed Matine S. Horner distinguished visiting professor at Radcliffe College.

"I have long been concerned with the intersection of employment and private lives," said Bailyn, who will examine issues related to women, work and economy during her two-year appointment beginning in September 1995.

The Institute, established in 1993, works to "engage women as full partners in governing society and in shaping policy on important economic and social issues," according to a press release.

"Professor Bailyn is a renowned scholar and an eminent Radcliffe alumna," said Radcliffe President Linda S. Wilson. "We are indeed delighted that she will play an integral role in launching the Public Policy Institute, one of the College's most important new ventures."

A member of the faculty at the Sloan School since 1972, Bailyn also serves on the board of directors of The Families and Work Institute, on the editorial board of the Journal of Engineering and Technology Management and as a trustee of the Cambridge Savings Bank.

Before joining MIT, Bailyn taught in Harvard's social relations department. She has served as a research associate at Harvard's Graduate School of Education.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Swarthmore College, Bailyn received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in social psychology from Harvard University.   The Crimson Staff
