City Schools Designated Curriculum Review Site

In Brief

The Cambridge public school district is now an officially designated review site for a nationwide curriculum-development project for science and technology, according to a school official.

Cambridge Public Schools Coordinator for Science Melanie Barron said she hopes that Cambridge will eventually become a national test site for the project, "Project 2061." Involvement in the project would bring resources and innovation to the science program, she said.

"I think the [current science] curriculum is a solid, standard curriculum that would be improved if it had more interdisciplinary work, more flexibility, more collaborations between math and technology and less emphasis on facts," Barron said.

Cambridge public schools, which were not originally chosen, gained late entrance into the program after Barron submitted a special request.

The project is named for the year when Halley's Comet will next be visible.
