The Nieman Foundation awarded fellowships to eight foreign journalists for study at Harvard next year, the journalism center announced earlier this month.

The fellowships, awarded annually, have offered journalists the opportunity to study in any part of the University since 1938. The fellows are selected by the curator of the foundation from applications, with recommendations from alumni and other journalists, according to Nieman administrator Elizabeth Tibbitts.

This year's awardees are: Kyu-Chul Choi, from Seoul, South Korea; Monica Flores Correa, from Buenos Aires, Argentina; Yossi Melman, from Tel Aviv, Israel; and Goenawan Mohamad from Jakarta, Indonesia.

Brian Pottinger, from Johannesburg, South Africa; Paolo Valentino, from Milan, Italy; Wu Guoguang, from Beijing, China and Kazutami Yamazaki, from Tokyo, Japan.

More than 200 journalists have studied at Harvard since the fellowship program was established by Agnes Wahl Nieman, widow of Luciun Nieman, the founder and publisher of The Milwaukee Journal.
