Men's Squash

The Harvard men's squash team knocked off Army, 9-0, and beat Franklin & Marshall, 7-2, Saturday in West Point, N.Y.

The morning matchup against F & M was closer than the final score might indicate.

After the first round of play, the score was tied 2-2. But Captain Kenton Jernigan--who won both his weekend matches--and his troops got on target in the second round to finish off the nation's fourth-ranked team.

"We didn't play that well," Jernigan said. "It's a tough time of the year for us."

The Crimson (5-0) had no trouble in its afternoon set against the Cadets.

"Army is not nearly as good as Franklin & Marshall," Jernigan explained.

Harvard had to play without Kevin Jeringan, Kenton's brother, who was injured and couldn't make the trip.

Wrestling

The Harvard wrestling team had a successful weekend at a tournament hosted at East Stroudsberg, winning two of three matches.

After losing their first match to the hosts, 27-17, the grapplers won convincingly over Coast Guard, 35-9, and Western New England College, 31-12.

The best showing of the day was turned in by Dave Bunning who went 3-0 from his 190-1b. position.

Crimson Coach John Lee did not use two of his regulars--Jeffrey Clark (142-1b.) and Jerry Greenberg (150-1b.)--in the day's first match, saving them instead for the more important matches against New England foes.

Both wrestlers posted 2-0 marks against Coast Guard and WNEC.

"If we wrestle the way we did this weekend, we're contenders for the [Ivy] title," said Mike Meade, the starter at 118-1b. before an injury sidelined him for the season.
