Wellesley Women Wake House With False Fire Alarm

Unable to coax their male friends out of a Kirkland House room, three Wellesley women resorted to pulling a fire alarm in I-entry of Kirkland at 5:30 yesterday morning, bringing House residents into the courtyard

"It was a real bummer, like a bad dream," J. Gordon Anderson'83, an Henry resident, said yesterday.

A Kirkland House senior who refused to be identified said the girls "were just drunk". The senior said he heard a lot of hanging on his door for several minutes. The hanging stopped, and several minutes later, the fire alarm went off

"I hadn't seen them in months. They called up an hour and a half earner out of the blue and wanted to come over," the senior said, adding, "I met them at a party once some where"

"There is no doubt it was those girls everybody knows they did it," Kevin B. Higgens, superintendent of Kirkland House, said yesterday However, by the time the Harvard police appeared on the scene, the girls had driven away, Higgens added

When the alarm went off, "the entire House except the annex came stumbling up," Paul A Sharon '84 said some students were wrapped in blankets, and many were wearing pajamas, Sharon said adding. We stand there shivering for about ten minutes until after the firemen had come and they turned the alarm off."

Massachutes state law makes a false fire alarm punishable by a line of up to $500 or a term in jail of not more than one year. The Harvard police, however, said they did not plan to press any charges.
