ITHACA, N.Y.--Cornell University trustees have disbanded the trustee committee on state relationships because of a court ruling that it must meet in public.
Trustee chairman Jansen S. Noyes said the committee could not work effectively in public. Instead, Cornell President H.T. Rhodes and his staff will carry out the functions of the committee, Noyes said.

A state court ruled last month that the 63-member board of trustees and its subcommittees must meet in public, under the state's open meeting law, when discussing matters provided for under New York State statutes.
Noyes said the trustees probably would either appeal the ruling or would seek an exemption for Cornell from the state legislature.
