Displaying good scoring punch and some strong forechecking, the Harvard J.V. hockey team held off a pesky Boston University team, 9-7, yesterday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena.

Harvard started off with a bang, as Doug Horton drove home the first Crimson goal only 58 seconds into the game, and jumped off to a 3-0 lead before B.U. could get their skates laced.

The Crimson kept the puck in the Terrier's end for most of the first period and went to the locker room with a 1-2 lead and an amazing 20 shots on goal.

The second period opened very much like the first, as Harvard's Tom Carr slapped in his second goal of the night at 0:57. The Crimson continued its control, finishing the period with a 7-4 lead.

The Crimson scored first in the third period and seemed to be taking control of the game, but a fight that broke out at 3:58 sent two players from each team into the penalty box and seemed to spark the flagging Terriers, who scored two goals in six seconds.

Winner

Before B.U. had a chance to get totally on track though, Harvard's Kevin Fitzgerald banged one home to ice it for the Crimson.

"Offensively we were fine, but I think we need to tighten up the defense a little," Harvard Coach Kevin Hampe said.

The Crimson skaters ended the game with 49 shots on goal. Carr, Fitzgerald, and Dan Janis led the team with two goals each.
