Beling, Polillio All-Ivy

Harvard seniors Ralph Polillio and Craig Beling capped their college careers by making the first squad on the Coaches' All-Ivy football team, which was announced this weekend.

Harvard also grabbed four spots on the second team. Quarterback Larry Brown, placekicker Gary Bosnic, defensive back Steve Potysman and defensive end Marko Coric shared second-team honors.

Three young Crimson players received honorable mention, including junior wide receiver Rich Horner, sophomore offensive tackle Mike Durgin, and sophomore defensive tackle Chuck Durst.

Senior defensive back Tom Masterson also garnered honorable mention.

The spunky Polillio was the tiniest running back to make the All-Ivy this year. At 5'9" and 180 lbs., the senior from Stoughton chugged for 585 yards. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry, and scored five touchdowns.

Beling played injured most of the season. Although missing two games, he finished third on the team with 56 tackles, only one behind team leaders Masterson and Scott MacLeod.

Brown passed phenomenally, completing 57 per cent of his aerials for 1575 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Bosnic booted half of his field goal tries through the uprights, and missed only one extra-point as he scored 44 points.

Potysman led the Crimson in interception runbacks, while Coric tackled as if it were going out of style.

Six players from champion Dartmouth made the first squad. Buddy Teevens of Dartmouth beat out Larry Brown for the top quarterback spot. Teevens also received the Asa S. Bushnell award as the Ivy player of the year. Polillio finished fourth in the Bushnell voting.

Running back Jeff Dufresne, wide receiver Dave Shula, placekicker Chris Sawch, defensive end Jeff Hickey, and linebacker Joe Nastri joined ens in the Big Green wave.

Five Yalies made the first squad, including four unanimous selections. Tight end John Spagnola, defensive end Chris Streit, defensive tackle Bob Skoronski, and defensive back Arnie Pinkston were the blue meanies who scored big, Linebacker Bill Crowley fell one vote short of being selected unanimously.

Fourth place Princeton also placed five men on the squad. Tigers such as running back Cris Crissy, guard Greg Bauman, center Andy Stephens, defensive middle guard Pete Funke, and punter Bill Powers put in impressive performances.

Brown, which tied Yale for second place in the Ivies, finished fourth in the voting with four selections--tackle John Sinnott, guard Bob Forster, defensive tackle Mike Lancaster, and defensive back Rob Brown.

Cornell and Columbia each placed two men on the first team. Tackle Victor Kaminski and punter Eric Blattman rose to eminence from Morningside Heights, while star running back Joe Holland and defensive back Virgil Cotton represented the Big Red from way up North.
