Carter Speaks on Energy

WASHINGTON--Reducing energy-related problems to human terms, President Carter brought the energy problem to the American people last night in a televised speech and asked them to urge Congress to act on his energy program.

Though American farmers are the foremost agricultural exporters, it still takes all the food exported in two years to pay for our nation's annual bill for imported oil of $45 billion, Carter said.

The three goals of Carter's energy policy, decreased consumption, a shift from oil and gas to other sources of energy, and the increased production of energy forms in the United States, will take great sacrifices on the part of the American people, Carter said.
