E-House Blackout

News Shorts

A power failure darkened six Eliot House entries yesterday morning, silencing alarm clocks and leaving some unhappy but rested undergraduates.

The breakdown, which hit H through M entries, occurred at about 2 a.m., but was not reported to Buildings and Grounds until the 8 a.m. arrival of the House superintendant. Power was restored at approximately 11 a.m.

Gary A. Schmidt '78, who lives in M entry, said yesterday he missed both his job and classes because his alarm clock failed to go off.

Leslie E. Thomas, manager of utilities, said yesterday that a B&G electrician's report blames the power failure on "high-spirited" students who were allegedly playing with the fuse box.
