Godkin Lecture

Carl Kaysen, director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J., spoke on "Towards More Equality?" in Ames Courtroom of Austin Hall last night as part of the John F. Kennedy School of Government's Godkin Lectures.

Kaysen discussed the social, political, and educational effects of inequality of wealth in the United States before an audience of about 200 people, including President Bok.

Kaysen said that increases in income and educational levels will gradually lead towards greater equality.

He described Belgium's successful solution of a class conflict caused by a bilingual society to "exemplify the persistence of the demand for equality" and to show the large changes possible in a democratic society.

Kaysen will conclude his discussion of equality Thursday night.
