GALLERIES

A friend of mine came up to me last year, and asked me if I'd gone to see the exhibit of Tansu chests at the old Art/Asia gallery on Story Street, of which I'd written in that week's listings. I sheepishly admitted that I'd bluffed my way through that one, and she said "Oh, you shouldn't have missed them. The chests are unbelievably beautiful." Well, I've been given a second chance--Art/Asia has moved to larger quarters on Palmer St., and has brought back the chests. The show opens a week from Saturday from a week. Yes, yes--this time I'll go.

The Concord Art Gallery at 82 Charles St. on Beacon Hill is showing the works of a man named John Ulbricht and his wife, Angela Von Neuman. Ulbricht has the distinction of being President Ford's portrait artist. I remember hearing that Betty Ford's portrait was sent back by the White House curator for being disproportionally larger than those of other first ladies.

Christmas is coming. 17th, 18th and 19th century German cookie molds are on exhibit at the Busch-Reisinger. Recipes not provided.

Paintings, Drawings and collages by Winchester artist Linda Lee, at Ticknor Library, Boylston Hall, through December 13. Good stuff but the building is overheated.

You may possibly be wondering why I spent the first half of these listings on something that isn't opening until next week. Well, I had this great personal anecdote to tell, and next week I won't be here to do it. After a year and a half of frantic typing every Wednesday afternoon, I am handing over the caps to Rodney Perry. Catch you later.
