For the Harvard waterpolo team, it's been a season of great potential but only mediocre performance. Despite a huge amount of individual talent, the team finished its season this weekend with a less that spectacular 10-9 record.

The waterballers closed their season Sunday with 15-4 drowning at the hands of California power Claremont, who trounced Brown and Yale this weekend by equally lopsided scores.

In earlier weeks action, the team managed to qualify for the Easterns but was eliminated in the first round of play by Bucknell, who went on to capture the championship.

Nevertheless, two Harvard players, senior co-captain Dan Daiss and junior scoring sensation Wes Raffel, were named to the all-Eastern team.

The waterballers this year received no coaching, and were only able to obtain two evening of pool practice time per week, Otto said.

The athletic department cut the team's funding from $250 last year to $100, and threatened to cut off all funding for next year. "It's preposterous--the football team spends more to fly one of its managers to Cornell than we get for the whole season," Daiss said.
