The Harvard University Police suspended and resumed the contract negotiations begun in May, 60 days prior to the July 1 expiration of the two-year contract. The director of the Personnel Office said on August 20 that he could not predict when an agreement would be reached. But he explained that "Harvard does not like actual contract expiration."
A source close to the negotiations said that the Patrolmen's Association would like their work to be considered equivalent to that of the City police. Harvard patrolmen would like the same pay as City police, the source said. The source said also that Harvard patrolmen would like to compare themselves to City police rather than to other University forces, since they feel they do City police work.
