NO-HITTER

Kansas City's Steve Busby, a rookie right-hander, pitched the first American League no-hitter since 1970 last night, blanking the Detroit Tigers 3-0 with the help of home runs by Ed Kirkpatrick and Amos Otis.

Busby's win evened his record at 2-2 for the season. Jim Perry suffered the loss for Detroit, dropping his pitching record to 2-4.

In other major league action yesterday, Hank Aaron blasted the 678th home-run of his career to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 2-0 victory over the New York Mets. The homer leaves him 36 short of Babe Ruth's all-time record of 714.

In Cincinnati, Steve Carlton, 1972 Cy Young Award winner, notched his fourth victory of the season with a four hitter as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Reds 3-1 Friday night. Carlton lost his bid for a shutout in the sixth inning on an infield hit by Bobby Tolan that drove in Dave Concepcion.
