There is some good news and some bad news for Crimson cage fans, and the bad news is going to hurt. The Harvard basketball team will be without captain Tony Jenkins's services when it takes on the Boston College Eagles at 8 p.m. tonight in the IAB.

While his teammates are trying to lick B.C., Jenkins, a 6 ft. 8 in. senior forward, will fly to Chicago for a reception for Rhodes Scholarship candidates. Jenkins will return to Cambridge on Saturday after his Rhodes interview.

The Brown game, originally scheduled for tomorrow night in the IAB, has been shifted to Sunday night when Jenkins can once again take the floor.

Just for a moment, imagine that UCLA's Bill Walton wanted to miss a game for a scholarship interview when the Bruins were slated to play Maryland. And then what if he might not be back for the North Carolina State game the next evening? What would the Bruins' officials say? Only at Harvard....

Zuffelato's Eagles

Coach Bob Zuffelato's Eagles come into tonight's contest sporting a 2-1 record with wins over Brown, 73-71, and Fairfield, 76-68. On Wednesday night, B.C. lost its opener to Canisius, 86-81. Harvard is 1-3 on the season.

Harvard coach Tom Sanders said yesterday the Eagles are "probably the strongest team individually that we've faced so far."

Sanders is impressed by the Eagles' depth. "They've got a tremendous amount of talent," he said. "They really go after the boards."

Bob Carrington, a 6 ft. 6 in. sophomore forward, leads B.C. with a 20 points per game average. Senior Mark Raterink is averaging 12.6 points a game. Raterink clicked for 18 points against Fairfield.

Mel Weldon, a junior college transfer playing guard, sports a 12.3 point average. The center for the Eagles is Bill Collins, a thin 6 ft. 9 in., and without Jenkins the Crimson will face serious problems underneath the boards.
