Stoeckel Nabs League Honors

For the second time out of four Ivy League games, Harvard quarterback Jim Stoeckel has been named League Back of the week. Stoeckel last won the honor two weeks ago for his performance against Cornell.

Stoeckel was chosen over five other quarterbacks for his clutch passing in the Crimson's wild 34-30 victory over Penn Saturday, which gave Harvard a share of the Ivy lead. He completed 27 of 48 passes for 291 yards, all Harvard records.

While he threw just one touchdown strike, a 30 yard strike to Pat McInally, it proved to be the game winner, coming with a mere one minute, 20 seconds remaining in the game. The TD toss culminated a well engineered 63 yard desperation drive.

Stoeckel also scampered for an 11 yard touchdown, boosting his total to four for the season. He stands third in the league in scoring behind Harvard's Bruce Tetirick and Penn's Adolph Bellizeare. Stoeckel's statistics also place him second in the league in both passing and total offense.
