The student government at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, is sponsoring a meeting Saturday to organize New England campuses to push for the impeachment of President Nixon.

Student body presidents and newspaper editors of over 200 regional colleges have been invited to the meeting. Nick Apostola, student government president, said yesterday he expects representatives from between 50 and 100 schools to attend.

Apostola said the purposes of the meeting are to organize a focus for student opposition to Nixon, to set up communication networks between schools, and to set up community coalitions to work for impeachment.

"Traditionally, college students have been at the vanguard of political change," Apostola said, "and we must continue to do so. We're organizing to be the driving force to push people to keep the impeachment movement running."

Apostola said he hopes the meeting will lead to coalitions between college students and working class groups interested in impeachment. "The momentum is there," he said. "If students provide the energy, we can force impeachment now.
