Harvard will soon regain control of a small lot at the corner of Dewolfe and Grant Streets and again use the area for Faculty and staff parking.
A city of Cambridge work crew yesterday began the resurfacing and fencing of both the Harvard plot and an adjacent space along Dewolfe St. owned by St. Paul's Parish, 34 Mount Auburn St.
The University and the rectory leased the area to the city four years ago in an informal agreement. Cambridge used the land for portable school facilities until the Martin Luther King Jr. School was ready for operation earlier this year.
James L. Sullivan, manager of the University Park Office, said yesterday that Harvard will not officially control the lot until the city completes the resurfacing and fencing.
Sullivan said University police will begin to ticket non-permit holders as soon as the repairs end. He added that Harvard currently has no legal authority over the area.
