Cagers Elect Hardy New Captain; Ruderman Will Lead Fencing Team

The varsity basketball and fencing teams have chosen captain for next year. Ernest Hardy will lead the hoopsters. While Cliff Ruderman will serve as fencing captain.

Hardy's election was announced at last night's varsity basketball banquet. He is a 6-3, 195-pound junior, who moved into the starting center slot this season despite his height disadvantage and limited experience. Hardy averaged 8.8 rebounds and 9.8 points a game this season and ranked fourth in the Icy with 134 rebounds overall.

Confident Captain

The new captain is looking forward to next season with confidence: "We're aiming high next season, we're going to surprise some people. Almost everyone will be back and we'll no longer be in a transition period. This year, we were trying to forget one coaching system and learn another, but next season we'll be accustomed to [coach Bob] Harrison's method."

Ruderman, a junior in Kirkland House, is number two man in Coach Edo Marion's foil team. Marion thinks Ruderman can provide strong leadership to help the team to improve on this year's 10-3 record. "I am very pleased with the selection," he said. "Cliff is a very conscientious and congenial member of the team, and has the morale and spirit that a captain needs."
