Yale's stellar halfback Calvin Hill and three of his teammates were admitted to the Eli infirmary yesterday with cases of the Hong Kong flu.
The four patients entered the infirmary at 5 p.m. yesterday, Yale Sports Information Director Charley Loftus said, adding that they are being held for 48 hours as a "precautionary measure." Loftus and Dr. Isao Hirata, who is caring for the ailing players, refused to speculate about whether or not the four would be able to play on Saturday.
The other three players are defensive end Jim Gallagher, offensive guard Fran Boyer, and offensive end Earl Downing. Gallagher is a starter, while Boyer and Downing are on the second team.
The flu problem at Yale is not critical at this point, but Dr. Hirata commented, "This is a potentially dangerous situation." The football players are only a few of an estimated 70 students who have been stricken by this flu.
Quarterback Brian Dowling is reportedly healthy.
