The skies over Princeton's Palmer Stadium rained Yale passes last Saturday, as Dowling's Darlings routed the Tigers, 29-7, and clinched their first outright Ivy football title since 1960.

Quarterback Brian Dowling sparkled. He tossed touchdown strikes 48 yards to 6-5 end Brien Weinstein, and 11 yards to halfback Calvin Hill. He chalked up another score on a 4 yard keeper play around Princeton's right end.

The Blue's field general really showed his savvy, though, on a play where Hill assumed the passing chores.

On the first touchdown play of the game, Dowling pitched out to Hill, in motion to the right. Yale's star halfback galloped toward the sideline, pursued by five Princeton men. Dowling streaked down the opposite side of the field, with a three-step lead on the defensive safety. Hill stopped, turned, and launched a bomb to Dowling, who grabbed the ball on Princeton's 38 and took it all the way home.

Princeton managed to match that tally five minutes later on a 60-yard march, capped by tailback Dick Bracken's 2-yard smash around end, but after the first quarter Yale left 'em in the dust.

In the other decisive Ivy battle, Cornell's Bill Robertson connected on 21 of 36 pass attempts for 254 yards and a heady 24-21 victory over Dartmouth. Robertson heaved the winning aerial late in the final quarter, a 12-yarder to Chris Ritter. The loss knocked Dartmouth out of the running for the league crown; Harvard, Dartmouth and Princeton have lost two games, while Yale is undefeated with one game left.

Pennsylvania upset Columbia, 26-6, as tailback Cabot Knowlton racked up 188 yards on 31 carries.
