Varsity Fencers Cream Brandeis

Harvard fencers won the first 22 bouts in yesterday's match with Brandeis. After Brandeis took the 23rd bout, the Crimson swept the last five for their first win of the season, 26-1.

Sophomore John Gersh and senior Mike Nigro each tallied three victories in sabre. Epee fencers Brian Keidan and Ed Moise also won three bouts. The sabre and epee teams each shut out Brandeis, 9-0. Harvard fencers have never lost to Brandeis.

Freshman Dan Rubin saved Brandeis from total embarrassment by taking one bout in toil against sophomore John Kruse, 5-2. Kruse won his other match, 5-0. Half of Harvard's scoring was by second-stringers.

Seven of Harvard's points came on 5-0 shutouts. All-Ivy foil fencer Tom Musliner picked apart two opponents 5-0 on quick straight thrusts.

Harvard swordsmen face traditionally weak South Eastern Massachusetts Technical Institute at 2 p.m. Saturday in the IAB. The freshman team meets M.I.T. at the same time for its first match of the season.
