The Harvard hockey team slowed down again Saturday night, and lost 3-2 to a young and speedy Cornell squad that dominated action throughout the game. The defeat drops the Crimson's overall record to 4-9 and its league mark to 0-2.

The Big Red started the game in a blaze, scoring in just 15 seconds. When Crimson defenseman John Daly failed to break up a pass deep in the Red end, Cornell's Harry Orr found his linemate Murray Stephen all alone at the spot Daly had vacated. When Stephen skated in on Crimson goalie Bill Fitzsimmons and scored, it looked as though Harvard was in for a long night.

Waldinger Scores

Harvard fought back from one-goal deficits in both of the first two periods on goals by Pete Waldinger and Dennis McCullough, the sixth of the season for each. But after Cornell went ahead early in the third period, Harvard could not manage to score again.

Cornell moved the puck beautifully for the first half of the opening period, but then Harvard finally got untracked. When Crimson wing Eddie Zellner sent a long shot along the ice off Chip Scammon's drop pass, Waldinger tipped it into the Cornell net and Harvard had drawn even.

Cornell enjoyed a wide territorial edge in the second period, but could only beat the spectacular Fitzsimmons once, on a powerplay goal by Mike Doran at 10:55. McCullough tied it just 35 seconds later after skating in alone on the Cornell net on a feed from Baldy Smith.

Doug Ferguson scored the winner for Cornell at 3:54 of the third period by putting in his own rebound after Doran had dug the puck out to him from behind the Harvard net.

The closest that Harvard came to tying the score a third time was a back-hand shot that hit the post minutes before the game ended.
