Aga Khan Gives Scholarship Fund

Karim Aga Kahn '59, who graduates with the Class of 1959 tomorrow, has established a ten-year program of scholarships for students attending Harvard from India, Pakistan, the Middle East, Persia, and East Africa.

The $50,000 gift of the Aga Kahn, spiritual leader of 20 million Ismaili Moslems, will be combined with College funds to provide 40 to 50 schoarships for students from those areas over the next decade.

In a statement, the Aga Khan said that he will never regret his decision, after succeeding to his grandfather's title, to return to Harvard to his studies. He added that he was "particularly impressed by the recent growth of facilities for the study of Middle Eastern and Asian affairs."

The Aga Khan announced that the College is expected to spend from its own funds an amount equal to his gift, so that $100,000 will be available for "Aga Khan Scholarships."
