The freshman baseball team snapped out of a two-game hitting slump and combined 28 runs and 24 hits in winning both of its weekend contests. The Yardlings now have an 8-3 record for the season.
As in its 16-7 victory over Boston College Friday, the Freshmen found themselves behind early in the game against Tufts Saturday. The Crimson started to hit in the second inning, however, and won, 12 to 6.
With Tufts ahead 2 to 0 in the second, Tom Bone's walk started a Yardling rally that put the visitors ahead to stay. Successive hits by Marc Kolden and Bob Sellig, an infield error, a walk, and two line singles by Dave Morse and Phil Bernstein scored six tallies. Then, after complaining long and loud about a called ball, Jumbo pitcher Bob Fuller was ejected by umpire Fred Lawrence.
Righthander Joe Loeb followed Fuller and finished the game, scattering eight hits, including a long homer by Captain Morse.
