Crime Softball Team Downs WHRB, 23-2; Shenefield Battered

A confident CRIMSON softball nine bided its time until the ninth inning Friday, then exploded for 23 quick runs to thrash its WHRB challengers, 23 to 2.

For eight innings bearded Reilly Atkinson set down the feared CRIMSON batting order which sportingly scoffed at his repeated use of a spitball.

Then, in an ill-advised burst of courtesy, the Technicians sent Atkinson to the tubs and called on "Shanks Shenefield to retire the Crimeds in the ninth and protect their 2-0 lead.

Commodore Bartle Bull, the CRIMSON mentor, rallied his forces for the supreme effort. Three times the entire batting order strode to the plate and, sparked by back-to-back grand slammers by "Cherokee" Chadwick and Boise Bryce Nelson, battered the stunned disk-jockeys.

While the bewildered Shenefield shambled back to the mound after watching the 22nd run tallied, Longwood speedster Fred Byron raced to the plate with the record-breaking 23rd score.
