Yardling Nine Favored Today

Launching its season today, the Freshman baseball team is favored to make it a winning start against Northeastern. The Yardlings and the Huskies will clash at 3 p.m. at Soldiers Field.

Coach Adolph Samborski's choice for the starting pitching assignment is his stocky lefthander, Tom Boone. The number one fastballer on the team has chalked up a win in a pre-season game and has looked good in practice.

Northeastern, according to coach Dick Dukeshire, has one of its poorest freshman teams in about three years. He said that his team is short on pitching, especially after the loss of its top hurler. The second man on the mound staff, Bill Tully, will start for the Huskies.

Samborski will start a good defensive infield, led by Mike Drummey, his quick second baseman. At third will be former Choate infielder Jim Dwinell, and at short Dave Morse, from Vermont Academy will start. Boone's batterymate this afternoon will be Chris Norris, Dwinell's former teammate.

In pre-season sessions the Yardling squad has looked fairly strong at the plate.
