The Phillips Brooks House Association will join the District Attorney's office of Middlesex County in an "all-out effort to combat juvenile delinquency in the Cambridge area," according to Richard E. Rubenstein '59, president of PBH.
"PBH has been thinking about fighting juvenile delinquency for over a year," Rubenstein explained. "Just before Christmas vacation this year I talked with John Powers, the assistant District Attorney, about the problem around Cambridge, and he was planning a full-scale attack on juvenile crime.
Rubenstein said last night that the proposed method of attack is a two-stage operation. A long period of research into every facet of delinquency will be followed by an intensive period of direct field work and contact with the minors involved.
Until the fall, PBH's role will be to do statistical, criminological, and organizational research. In compliance with the wishes of the District Attorney's office, PBH is establishing a Delinquency Research Project, which will administer the preliminary studies and organize volunteers.
"I strongly urge all students interested in the field of juvenile delinquency to volunteer for this valuable research work," Rubenstein stated.
