The varsity tennis team ended its first regular season road trip by trouncing Cornell on Friday and Army on Saturday, after an upset loss to Amherst on Thursday.

Competing without the services of Dale Junta, Larry Sears, and Allen Goldman, who normally play in the first, second, and fifth singles positions respectively, the team topped Cornell 6-1 and Army 9-0.

At Cornell, Tim Gallwey, playing at first singles, easily defeated Floyd Downs 6-0, 6-3. Second man, Fred Vinton, who normally plays the sixth singles position, lost to Kay Champion 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in a hard-fought match.

Playing at third singles despite a back injury sustained in the Amherst match, Ned Weld beat Victor Sun 6-3, 6-2. Pete Krogh, Laurie Pratt and Richard Shute won the remaining singles matches, while the second doubles team also won 6-3, 6-3. The other doubles matches were cancelled due to darkness.

Gallwey and Vinton led the attack against Army by taking their matches 4-6, 8-6, 6-1, and 3-6, 9-7, 6-2 respectively.

In the only singles match not to go three sets, Weld trounced his opponent 6-2, 6-2. Bill Wood, trailing 4-0 in the last set, rallied to win 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at the fourth singles position.
