WEEKEND EVENTS

For the intrepid Bilbo Baggins, another weekend rears its ugly head:

THEATRE

The Boy Friend has been known to amuse Boston audiences. Currently in its second "return visit" this year, and nobody really remembers how many "return visits" it made last season. But it's still "direct from Broadway," rest assured. At the Shubert. Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday also, at 2:40 p.m.

MUSIC

Both the Red Sox and Charles find the Florida sun not unpleasant. Pierre is off the bench, and will hurl at Haydn, Creston and Schubert. Symphony Hall. 60 cents in the second deck for today's 2:15 p.m. tilt. Saturday 8:30 p.m., bleachers generally filled.

Margaret Harshaw will leave nothing unheard Sunday afternoon at Symphony Hall in a solo concert. 3:30 p.m. Tickets still available.

CINEMA

Carousel, by that unfortunate pair, Rogers & Hammerstein, has been further garished by "Cinemascope 55." Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones, and starring Mary Breen. More than your eyes have ever seen! Keith's Memorial. 2:29 p.m., 4:52 p.m., 7:15 p.m., 9:38 p.m.

Diabolique are you if you guess who's in the bathtub. Don't tell your relatives, or the man in the yellow shirt will get you. Rocks around the clock from 10 'til 10 every two hours. At the Beacon Hill.

Picnic includes William Holden, Kim Novak, Rosalind Russell, and Sarah Groin. Bring your own sandwiches. State and Orpheum. Orpheum understandably runs 15 minutes ahead of the sovereign State, which asserts itself at 2:30 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 7:25 p.m., and 9:50 p.m.

The Rose Tattoo will be visible in VistaVision, which, after all, is the only way to see a rose tattoo. Anna Magnani, Burt Lancaster. At the Metropolitan. 2:10 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 9:30 p.m.

MISCELLANY

Cinerama Holiday just about takes you there--dozens of enchanting places too numerous to mention but too memorable to miss. Yes, you'd better be from Missouri. Today, 2:40 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. Extra Special show Saturday at 5:40 p.m. At the Boston Theatre.

The Stable has hot music, cold drinks, and lukewarm girls for latecomers.
