Net Team Tops Brown, Drops Princeton Match

The varsity tennis team, in two away matches over the weekend, easily defeated Brown Friday, 8 to 1, but dropped a close match to powerful Princeton on Saturday, 9 to 6. The split gives the Crimson an overall 8-6 record and a league showing of 5 won and a league showing of 5 won and one lost.

Ben Heckscher, at seven, and Steve Kay, number nine, gained the only other varsity victories in singles.

The Crimson's much-improved doubles teams won three out of the five matches. Dan Mayers and Fischer swept past Ralph Stuart and Walt Milbourne at three, 6-3, 6-1, and Maynard Canfield and Karl Purnell, playing four, downed Dick Daniels and Pete Pressinger. At five, Steve Kay and Ian Gianetti beat Dan O'Connor and Pete Lieph in straight sets.
