The varsity track team, minus Dave Alpers, finished a close third, 4 1/4 points behind Cornell and 2 1/2 in back of Yale, in the annual Heptagonal games at Ithaca Saturday afternoon.

Captain Bob Rittenberg was Coach Bill McCurdy's high scorer in the close meet where six records were broken. He captured the 60 yard high hurdles in 7.5 seconds. After taking the hurdles, Rittenberg jumped 23 ft., 6 2/4 inches to place second in the broad jump. Finishing a very productive afternoon, the senior tied for third in the high jump. Miler Al Wills scored the Crimson's only other win, taking his specialty in 4:25.

With anchor man Alpers benched, due to a back injury, the varsity mile relay team was off its usual pace and the Big Red edged it into second place with a mediocre time of 3:23.3. A healthy Alpers would probably have given the Crimson the race, for with him the team has dome nearly four seconds better than cornell's time. Since the Big red won only three events, a varsity victory in the relay would have meant the Heps title.

Disappointing results in the 1000-yard run, 600-yard run, and 35 lb. weight throw, further dimmed the team's title chances.
