Drive Started on Parking Violators

Cambridge police have started another campaign against illegal all-night parking. During the past week more than 1500 tickets have been given out, compared to a total of 300 for the entire month of January.

Captain of Traffic Patrick J. McCarthy said yesterday that the crackdown would probably continue, for more policemen have been assigned to night duty in response to complaints of the city street cleaning and snow removal departments.

No Need to Worry

University car owners, however, need not get excessively worried about receiving tickets. According to McCarthy, a new city ordinance permits the Police Department to wait 30 days after the ticket is issue before sending a summons.

"And in many cases we don't send a summons unless the person has collected four or five tickets," McCarthy said. "Most policemen are drunk with power, but I don't like to give out too many fines."
