Varsity Wrestlers To Open Season Against Amherst

The uniforms will be new and the color brighter, but the Crimson wrestling team that opens its first year of Ivy League competition this afternoon will not have its best muscles on hand. The opposition: Amherest at 3 p.m. in the IAB.

Bob Morrison, veteran in the unlimited class, will be absent from the line-up because of the death Thursday of his father. In addition, Bob Gilmore, who successfully filled the 167-1b, slot last year, has only recently returned to action after a knee operation. He will wrestle at 177.

"This is definitely not the best team I can put on the mat," coach Bob Pickett said. "And Amherst should be better this year," he added.

He noted particular Amherst strength at unlimited, 177, and 147. Thus with Morrison out chances for success in the unlimited class seem small. Varsity newcomer Casper Cronk must face Amherst captain Patton.

The other Lord Jeff strong points will be met by two of the varsity's best. Provided the knee does not cause trouble, Gilmor should give the Crimson at least even odds against Felton at 177 and captain Phil Burnaman should make the weight to meet Amherst's Thompson at 147.
