Captain Russ Johnson collected a triple and a single and drove in two runs to lead the varsity baseball team to an 8 to 2 victory over M.I.T. at Soldiers Field yesterday. The win gives the Crimson a five-win, four-loss season record, and squares the team's Metropolitan League standing at a win and a loss.

Johnson's triple helped the Crimson take a 3 to 0 lead in the first inning. Bob Smith, starting his first game of the season, drew first after he was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Walt Greeley singled Smith to second, and both runners advanced on Dick Clasby's neat sacrifice bunt in front of the plate. Johnson then smashed one of M.I.T. starter Ted Slosek's fastballs to deep left for the base-clearing three-bagger. He scored on Don Butters' flyout.

The Crimson added two more runs in the second without a hit. Tim Wise, Ed Krinsky, and pitcher John Arnold drew successive walks. Wise scored on Smith's fly to center, and Krinsky tallied on a wild pitch. The outburst sent Slosek to the showers and Al House came in to finish the game for Tech.

House gave up two runs in the fifth. Butters walked with one out, Dick Scheer singled him to third, and Butters scored on a successful double steal. Wise singled in Scheer for the second run of the inning.

Wise scored the final varsity run, reaching third when Tech third baseman Bob Lait threw past first into rightfield on Wise's grounder. Krinsky followed with his second hit to score Wise.

The visitors scored their first run in the second on two singles and two walks, and the other in the sixth on a walk, a hit batter, and a single by Henderson.
