LINING THEM UP

Varsity Material

Every year Corey Wynn takes a squad of over 25 freshmen squash players and spends a long indoor season at Hemenway Gymnasium grooming them for varsity play. This year his task is lightened by the fact that one of his players is ready right new to make the varsity team, ready probably to step into the number two position.

He is Benjamin Heckscher, twice interscholastic squash champion and undefeated against prep school competition in three year of competition at Choate. He has played and beaten every player on this year's Crimson varsity with the exception of first man Larry Brownell.

There is probably no one he will meet in freshman this year, with the possible exception of Exeter's Paul Martin, who can give him any trouble. He best Milton Street, the country's 11th ranking amateur, last week. Street will play him again today in order to prove his loss a fluke, but a victory over Street, fluke or not, is an achievement.

Roommate Second

His roommate is Wigglesworth, Calvin Place, is second man on the squad. He played squash three years age at Episcopal Academy, but did not play again until this fall. A graduate of the Hill School, Place has impressed Wynn with his potential, but he lacks as yet the finesse and experience of Heckseher.

Former first man at St. Paul's, James Hammond is in the third position on the team. Tony Ostheimer is fourth, and Douglas Gardner fifth. Ostheimer played at Middlesex, but Gardner is playing for the first time. All three excel at hard shots down the sides that keep their opponents on the run.

John Ansell is sixth Langdon Smith seventh, Maynard Caulfield eights, and Dwight Davis ninth at the present time.

John Lonsdale, Phillip Southall, and Harold Scott are all within striking distance of team positions, although they rank just off the team.

With Heckscher at the top and above average strength down the line, the freshmen have an excellent chance for an undefeated season.
