University Plans New Parking Lot Early This Spring

The University will begin construction of a new parking lot behind the Divinity School in March, the Department of Buildings and Grounds announced yesterday.

The new lot, located in the rear of Andover Hall, will cost an estimated eight to ten thousand dollars. Approximately a half mile from the Houses, it will have space for about 130 cars, officials said.

Until last summer the land for the lot was the site of a temporary University housing project for veterans and their families studying under the G.I. Bill.

Ready Next Term

The barrack-like homes were supposed to be torn down early last year, but the University petitioned the city to allow them to remain until the spring when they were finally demolished.

The new lot will take up approximately half of the space available on the site of the former homes, and the Department of Buildings and Grounds has given no indication as to what will be done with the rest of the land.

Officials reported that the proposals for the new lot to alleviate students parking problems was passed during the fall, but added that it was too late in the season to begin construction at that time. The lot should be ready for occupancy by the beginning of next term.
