Yale Favored Over Crimson Fencing Team

An unpredictable Crimson fencing team will meet Yale this afternoon as a decided underdog. The Elis have a seven and three record; Harvard has won half of its six matches.

Yale is counting on an outstanding sabre squad to pile up points. The trio of Captain Carl Knobloch, Hobart Edmonds, and Karl E. Bakke was a close second in the National Sabre Championships earlier this year.

Yale is also strong in the epee. Henry Gray and Don Marshall have performed well this season.

Win on Paper

Coach Rene Peroy expects top performances from Captain Win Overholser and John Smith in the epee, Forrest Carter in the sabre, and foilsmen Eric Sollee and Neil Jertson.

Both teams have lost to Columbia, which has one of the top fencing squads in the country. The Crimson lost to Princeton and Army by heavy scores. Yale has beaten both teams.

Both Freshmen Strong

Captain Warren Stone will lead the undefeated freshmen against a strong Yale team. Stone is unbeaten in the sabre and recently won an unofficial match with varsity fencers. Ivan Chermayeff and Dick Eiwell are the Crimson's top men in the epee and foil.

The Yale freshman captain, Dawson Shoemaker, is outstanding in the foil, while George Jacoby has had a good season in the epee for the Blue.
