Up The Street

"Up the Street with the Harvard University Band"--One 10" LP record, $4.95, or four 10" 78' r.p.m. records, $1.16 each.

The second Band recording to be released this year is just as good s the first, which means it is very good. "Up the Street" deviates somewhat from the Band's previous crop of football songs; it groups four Sousa marches, "Stars and stripes Forever," "Washington Post," "Semper Fidelis," and "El Capitan" with two familiar circus the Double Eagle,"and a pair of local arrangement long overdue for recording, "Our director" and "Up the street."

The quality of the records is excellent; the Band worried a great deal about the acoustics of its recording hall, and the result is exceptional accuracy and crispness. Probably the best of the marches is the "Washington Post" beloved of newsreels, and the Band makes it precise and alive at the same time. "Our Director" is nearly as good. So is "Up the Street," too many parts of which have been tucked away and lost in medleys until now. The Band has done a fine and careful job on its new recording. It is a good buy.
